Senior System Analyst, Database Administrator, System Manager and Deputy Controller of Examinations positions in University of Calcutta
The Court of Directors of the East India Company sent a despatch in July, 1854 to the Governor-General of India in Council, suggesting the establishment of the Universities of Calcutta, Madras and Bombay.
In pursuance of that despatch, the University of Calcutta was founded on JANUARY 24, 1857.
The University adopted in the first instance, the pattern of the University of London and gradually introduced modifications in its constitution.
The University Act (Act No.II of 1857) was passed by the Legislative Council and received the Governor-General’s assent on 24 January, 1857. This was indeed the foundational legislation in the history of the University of Calcutta. Altogether forty persons were named as Foundation Fellows.

Senior System Analyst/Database Administrator
Essential Qualifications : Senior System Analyst/Database Administrator
Master’s degree in Computer / Information Science / Technology / Computer Applications
or
having a “B” Level or above from DOEACC, Government of India
with minimum 55% marks or its equivalent grade in the point scale wherever a grading system is followed along with at least five years of experience in system management in academic institution / Government / Quasi Government / Corporate bodies.

- Working experience in UNIX / LINUX / WINDOWS operating system and Network Administration for examination related processes with sound knowledge in maintaining large volume of digitized records
- Ability to work with database management softwares, identify user needs, setup new databases, integrate data from existing network into new network, co-ordinate system modifications, plan, co-ordinate and execute database security with network administrator.
- Familiarity with web based applications, Network hardware, internet uplink tools, installation and up gradation of Open Source and UMS (University Management Service) packages on servers and work stations.
- Experience in security (Cisco Security Application, PIX, IDS, Academic Computing and Computer Lab and Vendor Management). v) Experience in System Planning, development and Coordinating experience in ORACLE / SQL server / NET / VB / Crystal report environment.
- Capacity to explore newer project tools, concepts and methodologies including ICR / OMR technology.
- Ability to impart training to team members to accomplish goals, to meet schedules and resolve technical / operational issues by optimum utilization of resources.
- Capacity to co-ordinate team activities, create and maintain awareness amongst the team members on emerging technologies.
Pay Band Scale : Rs. 15-600-39,100/- (Pay Band – 3) with a Grade Pay of Rs. 8000/- plus admissible allowances

Systems Manager
Essential Qualifications :
Master’s degree in Computer / Information Science / Technology / Computer Applications or equivalent
or
having a “C” Level or above from DOEACC, Government of India
with minimum 55% marks or its equivalent grade in the point scale wherever a grading system is followed along with at least fifteen years of working experience in system management in academic institution / Government / Quasi Government / Corporate bodies.
Desirable Qualifications:
- A Doctorate Degree or published research work of merit
- Working experience in UNIX / LINUX / WINDOWS operating system and Network Administration and data communication protocol
- Ability to design, install, support and maintain University’s computer system including LANs / WANS, internet and intranet systems and network and information security
- Interact with various environments including other Universities, National Record Organisations, Government Organisations, regulatory bodies and corporate bodies
- Ability to install and maintain network hardware and software, analyse problems and monitor networks to ensure their availability to users.
- Ability to integrate and maintain system efficiency of the computer network at different campuses, plan and make recommendations for future upgrades and modifications.

Deputy Controller of Examinations
Essential Qualifications- Uniformly good academic record with a Master’s degree with minimum 55% marks or its equivalent grade in the point scale whereever a grading system is followed.
- At least 10 years of experience as Lecturer / Assistant Professor in the AGP of Rs. 6000/- and above with experience in educational administration in academic institutions like University, Research Establishment and / or in an institute of higher learning of which 5 (five) years must be in a University or in an institute of Post Graduate Body.
- At least 3 (three) years of experience in conducting of examinations in either undergraduate teaching institution or equivalent. OR Comparable experience in research establishment and other institute of higher learning. OR 10 (Ten) years of administrative experience of which 5 (five) years shall be as Assistant Registrar or equivalent post.
Desirable Qualifications:
- A Doctorate Degree or published paper of high standard OR
- Experience of at least 10 years in a fairly senior position in any academic institution like a college or a University or a Research Organisation
